Vocalists need a monitor that emphasizes their vocal range and an upper-mid peak where articulation lives (audio folks would call it presence). That range, around 2 kHz to 4 kHz, is where we get the sounds that define words. Great clarity and a clean low end also help vocals jump out of a mix.
